Alice in Wonderland

Two words sum up this movie...LET DOWN. For some crazy reason I was under the impression this movie was going to be a re-make of the old Disney cartoon...not even close. It was a totally different story of Alice going back to 'Wonderland' as a teenager, having forgotten her trip there as a child. Dumb. Also, all the excitement and hype over the Mad Hatter's character played by Johnny Depp was a huge disappointment. His lines weren't even funny and neither was his interpretation, or Tim Burton's should I say, of the Mad Hatter himself. Simply put, the previews were the most entertaining scenes of the entire film. The rest was slow and boring. As far as seeing it in 'Disney digital 3-D', the visuals were mildly entertaining at best. I think my biggest regret was paying close to $30 for the both of us to be bored and anxious for the movie to be over. I mean, some of the most classic lines from the old Disney cartoon weren't even used at all in the film. I kept waiting for "I'm late, I'm late...for a very important date...". Or the Cheshire Cat to say, "that depends on where you want to get..." in response to Alice questioning him where she should go. Either way, this movie would have been a million times better if Tim Burton had followed the old Disney cartoon storyline and took a more 'Sweeny Todd', muscial approach, minus all the blood and body parts of course.

Shutter Island

We LOVE Leo!! However, I do not like scarry movies. Larry wanted to see this sooo badly so I agreed and was pleasantly surprised! This was more of a thriller and a suspence film. you spent the whole movie trying to figure out what was really going on which was fun! Great Character development. Leo is just always so beleivable, it's awesome! There were a few graphic images which I could have gone without seeing. Leo's character has served in WWII so there were some disturbing holocaust images. And a few F words. Besides that, this was a very entertaining and well made movie!

This weeks views

Brilliant! Warning: This is a tear jerker!! I am a huge fan of Kate Winslet and obviously Johnny Depp. I think this movie was one of both of their bests. During this movie, you'll be able to experience a tender side of Johnny Depp. Kate Winslet is real as always. She has a way of seeming so down to earth and relative. Freddie Highmore, the boy who played Peter was amazing. And so cute! Definite must see!

I have been waiting to see Sweeney Todd for a long time. I had heard a lot about it and I love Johnny Depp. I decided that if you know and love the story of Sweeney Todd then you probably love this portrayal of it. It was Tim Burton to a tee! It was thrilling and creepy. I was entertained from start to finish. I loved the music and that these actors really sang! They did amazing! Helena Bonham Carter was brilliant. Johnny Depp never disappoints. All in all I loved the movie but hated the story! I'm not sure if that makes sense. The story is morbid and disturbing but there was something lovable about Mrs. Lovett. It makes you want to see Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney Todd end up happily ever after. It does contain graphic bloody violence which is definitely disgusting. I had my eyes covered for an entire 10 minute scene!

So poor Larry finally got me to approve of a scary movie on Friday, the 13th only to end up with a complete disappointment. If you've never heard of the movie... there is probably a reason! This movie was completely scattered from start to finish. It made no sense and left you hanging but not in a good way. I was waiting for something for 2 hours that just never happened!

Introduction to movie Reviewing!

Being a poor newlywed couple in a town with a population of 28,000 (half of whom are students) where the nearest mall (if you can even call it that!) is a 40 m inute drive has made our entertainment fall to movie renting. It looks something like this- Tuesday night: Redbox Wednesday night: Redbox Friday night: Redbox Saturday night: Horkley's video (so we can get movies for Sunday too!) I always try to push for renting at Horkley's because it is a gas station/video rental store where I can fill up my diet coke cup for 40 cents! Anyway, we had an idea the other night that we should start recording our feelings about the movies we rent mostly so that we can remember and also because we've watched some duds which I do not want any of you to be fooled into renting! So ENJOY!
